UncategorizedSexual Harassment in the Spotlight: Judiciary Must Ensure that Courts Are Safe Workplaces

July 19, 2018by admin

A group of jurists and senior administrators from the federal court system released a report with its study and analysis of the judiciary’s procedures for handling workplace harassment complaints.  The report makes several recommendations for reforms in the courts policies and procedures to ensure that the courts are a safe place to work.
The Federal Judiciary Workplace Conduct Working Group was charged with reviewing how the federal courts handle allegations of misconduct brought by employees.  Although this report has been publicly criticized by government officials, its publication indicates the growing trend toward improving policy related to sexual harassment complaints.  In the past year alone, sexual harassment in the workplace has been in the spotlight of many news stories and reports.
Employers must take action to ensure that their policies align with the most recent changes in employment law, requiring employers to have a written policy in place.  Tristan & Cervantes has assisted clients in composing and implementing sound policies and in providing training to employees to ensure that complaints are handled properly.  Please contact our office at info@tristanlegal.com or call us at 312.345.9200.
