We are proud to share that our firm’s work supporting Chicago cultural institutions was highlighted last week in WBEZ’s coverage of the growing need for training in the face of increased federal enforcement activity in Chicago. The feature focused on a citywide training our firm conducted in partnership with Latinos Progresando, the National Museum of Mexican Art and National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture, following recent incidents in which federal agents appeared at or near museums and cultural spaces.
These incidents have understandably raised concerns across the arts and nonprofit communities. In response, our attorneys and community partners have been actively equipping cultural organizations with the tools, protocols, and clarity they need to protect staff, visitors, and community members.
Our training emphasized several key points, including:
- The need for organizational leaders to develop a plan in case of immigration enforcement at your site;
- The importance of being prepared for I-9 audits and employment verification processes;
- The necessity of designating an on-site representative empowered to liaise with federal agents;
- Ensuring staff at all levels know how to respond safely and appropriately.
Tristan & Cervantes firm remains committed to helping institutions develop or refine response protocols. If your organization would like to schedule a training, review existing procedures, or create a comprehensive preparedness plan, contact us at info@tristancervantes.com or 312-345-9200 to schedule a call to discuss.
